Air Canada International Association of Machinists and Aerospace Workers strike notice
Air Canada has received a strike notice by the International Association of Machinists and Aerospace Workers (IAMAW), representing the airline’s approximately 8,600 mechanics, baggage handlers and cargo agents in Canada, confirming that the union intends to proceed with strike action as early as 12:01 A.M. ET on Monday, March 12, 2012 in the event that an agreement is not reached by then. Despite the issuance of this notice, Air Canada is committed to trying to reach a negotiated settlement with the union leadership and avert strike action.

In the meantime, it will remain business as usual at Air Canada and all flights will continue to operate as scheduled. Aeroplan Members can continue to accumulate miles and redeem them for flights on Air Canada with confidence.

In view of the situation’s uncertainty and should a settlement not be reached, the airline will endeavour to minimize inconvenience to its customers.
